NAHEMI at the 2024 CILECT Congress in Beijing
October 2024 | Beijing, China – NAHEMI was proudly represented at the 2024 CILECT Congress hosted by the Communication University of China (CUC). The congress, themed “Artificial Intelligence and Film Education,” brought together leaders from over 100 film schools across more than 50 countries to explore the evolving role of AI in creative education.
NAHEMI Chair Jeremy Bubb attended the congress alongside other key representatives: Deputy Chair Professor Lucy Brown (University of Westminster), Communications/Membership Officer Barry Dignam (IADT) and members, Christopher Petter and Susan Wilkinson (London College of Communication), and Chris Auty (London Film School). The congress provided a vital platform for knowledge exchange, networking, and the sharing of diverse perspectives on the challenges and opportunities presented by AI.
Keynotes from experts such as Creative Technologist and Cinematographer Saloni Shukla and Norwegian IP Lawyer Stine Helén Pettersen sparked thought-provoking discussions on the integration of AI in film education and its legislative implications. The congress also highlighted strategies for collaboration between institutions and industry partners in navigating this new era of education.
In a significant achievement, NAHEMI board member Barry Dignam was elected as the new GEECT Regional Chair and to the Executive Council of CILECT. His election is a testament to his extensive contributions to film education and his dedication to strengthening the ties between film schools across Europe. Barry’s leadership will undoubtedly be instrumental in guiding educators through the challenges posed by technological advancements, advancing diversity and sustainability in our industry.
