Kodak/Nahemi Student Commercial Awards 2023

The Kodak/Nahemi student commercial awards were held at the historic Regent Street Cinema in London on Friday June 2nd 2023, with an audience of 150 student film makers, film teachers and advertising industry professionals.

Students were provided with live briefs supplied by the advertising agencies Libertine and TBWA, and had to make a 30 second commercial using one ten minute roll of 16mm film that is provided by Kodak.

‘Bag of Bags’, made by students at the Arts University Bournemouth and answering a brief from The Soil Association’s ‘pledge for the planet’ campaign, was the overall winner. In second place was ‘What If’ from the London Film Academy, for the Adidas campaign for the Women’s World Cup 2023, and in third place ‘When the War Never Ends’, for the Walking with the Wounded’ charity, made by students at UCA Farnham.

After a screening of all 54 entries from 16 film schools from the UK and Ireland, the awards presentation was hosted by the inspirational Gémina Gil Flores & Jemma Burgess, also known as The Gems, who are an award-winning creative team at McCann’s; this was followed by a drinks reception sponsored by Kodak.

The competition has been running for more than 40 years, and is organised by Peter Hort from the University of Westminster and David Heinemann from the University of Middlesex. It was judged by a panel of representatives from the agencies that supplied the briefs, Sam Clark from Kodak, and the chair of Nahemi, Jeremy Bubb.
