Jim Hornsby - A Short Story About Employability

“Although neither project continues and my experience may come across as a cautionary tale about institutional disinterest and the pitfalls of micro-projects, I like to think both projects show - in more than equal measure - the value and potential of employability projects based in local communities.

I think they are especially relevant to our time when the need for social and environmental change is more pressing than ever.

As far as I know, other socially minded projects have not appeared in UK media courses. That seems surprising to me because their advantages seem so obvious. I have however come across a similar media course at CAL State University in Los Angeles and is run in partnership with the international gallery Hauser Worth.

Although retired, I am still committed to the ideas and welcome enquiries from any members who want to explore opportunities for community based employability projects in their departments”.
